Magnesium-based composite materials for effective hydrogen storage
The project is envisaged the development of new technical solutions for the creation of high-performance new-generation membrane-electrode blocks with bipolar plates and fuel cells based on them, which will increase the reliability and power of hydrogen-oxygen and hydrogen-air fuel cells and batteries.
Applications
The use of fuel cells is possible in various industries (water transport, auto and rail transport, agriculture and municipal services, chemical production, field camps, drilling rigs, cathodic protection, measuring instruments, communication, portable current sources, etc.).
Brief description
The fuel cells battery consists of membrane-electrode assembles (MEA) with a proton-conducting membrane (Nafion type) and bipolar plates made of dense graphite, in which the channels for supplying and discharging reactants are made, electrocatalysts and gas-transferring layers, which are located between pairs of Teflon gaskets assembled in a FC battery are compressed with copper plates that serve as joints. The collected battery is secured by edge plates.
Expected properties
The fuel cells battery will be used in the technological process to optimize and develop new batteries of the required capacity and introduce them into mass production.
Advantages
The hydrogen-air fuel cells battery has all the features of the real PEMFC, and when applied for the development of new technologies, it allows the use of small amounts of investigated materials, is convenient for assembly and is the basis for the development of batteries of the required power.

Status of project
A laboratory sample of a 5 W (Fig.1-a) hydrogen-air fuel cells battery is developed and manufactured. The method of synthesis was developed and composite functional materials were studied on the basis of multi-component systems with carbon nanotubes and nano-dispersed electrocatalysts for the reduction of oxygen and oxidation of hydrogen with a small amount of platinum for a membrane-electrode assambles of a competitive fuel cell.
