Area of applications
It is expected, that created sorbents based on coordination polymers can be used for accumulation and storage of molecular hydrogen, achieving density of bound hydrogen higher than its density in liquid phase.
Brief description
Porous coordination polymers of different chemical nature and crystal structure, which will allow to create principally new sorbents of molecular hydrogen. In addition, preparation of such compounds will not require use of high temperatures (for example, hydrothermal synthesis), as well as environmentally-harmful chemical reagents and solvents.
Expected results
Optimizing of technology for preparation of porous coordination polymers of this type using serial industrial equipment.
Understanding of physico-chemical mechanisms of molecular hydrogen binding by sorbents of this type and relation between structure of building blocks, porosity of crystal lattices and chemical nature of pore walls.
Advantages
The sorbents which were designed are characterized by relatively high thermal stability (up to 250 °C), chemical stability in conditions of the environment, not high temperatures of preliminary preparation (elimination of water molecules, which are present in pores of starting compounds, at temperatures less than 150 °C) and high reversibility of molecular hydrogen adsorption/desorption without use of high temperatures.

Project development
Methods for synthesis of porous coordination polymers of different structure, which do not provide for use of high temperatures and harmful solvents, were developed. Sorption properties of these compounds in respect to nitrogen and hydrogen were studied.
Sorption capacity in respect to hydrogen at the level of 1 weight percent at 78 K and 1 atm was achieved.
