Photoelectrochemical cell for hydrogen generation with hybrid photoanode based on solid-state solar cell and titanium dioxide film
Fields of application:
It is supposed to use the cell for hydrogen generation by water splitting under sunlight.
Concise description
The technological process of titanium dioxide film deposition (doped and undoped) of various morphology by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method using serial industrial furnaces is developed.
Characteristics expected:
The purpose of the project is photoelectrochemical cell with the efficiency of solar-to-hydrogen conversion 5 - 10%.
Innovative aspects and main advantages:и
Method of manufacturing titanium dioxide photocatalytic films meets the highest international standards and has no analogues in Ukraine. The formation of films is simple (synthesis takes place at atmospheric pressure) and does not require expensive equipment. The method allows to dose doping element with high accuracy.
Competitors
The project focuses on create technology for hydrogen PEC dissociation water under sunlight. Achieving efficiency of this process in 10% of planned U.S. Department of Energy in 2013, which, in their opinion, would be sufficient for the establishment of industrial technology such production.

Stage of development:
A technology of the synthesis process of titanium dioxide films with titanium tetrachloride and carbon dioxide is developed.
The experimental setup for the integral and the spectral photocurrent measurements of photoanodes is created.
The influence of temperature and time of synthesis on the morphology of the surface films and the magnitude of the photocurrent is studied.
