Thematics of scientific search

The main direction of activity is studies of regularities of synthesize process, structure formation and properties of boride phases of rare earth metals and composite materials on their base.

Technological processes of creation of different types of high-efficient thermal emission cathode elements on base of lanthanum hexaboride are developed under his supervision, their small-scale manufacture was organized that provides necessity of Ukraine and set of foreign countries.

As a result of researches of crystal and electron construction of some metal borides Yuriy Paderno with co-authors discovered new fundamental phenomenon - phenomenon of fluctuating valence of rare earths in their compounds that results in creation separate direction in solid state physics (Diploma # 157 on discovery of ?Phenomenon of fluctuating valence of rare earth atoms in compounds? with priority from 11.06.1963 from Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (23.12.2000)).

Under supervision of Prof. Yu.Paderno were grown large-scale perfect single crystals of some metal borides that are necessary for study of their fundamental characteristics.

During last decade was developed the principally new class of directionally crystallized self- reinforced ceramic whisker-strengthen composites on the base on eutectic mixtures of RE and transition borides/ These ?in-situ? composites characterize by ver perfect structure and stability to brittle fracture that exceed the brittleness of source components in 5-10 tomes.
