Abstract

Comparing the strength values obtained from the empirical Hall―Petch law and the strength values from quantum mechanical calculations, taking into account the dependence on the crystal size, a relationship is derived that describes the relationship between the yield strength (or tensile strength) and the theoretical strength of the crystals, with tightly packed atomic planes.
