Abstract

The liquidus surface for the Al2O3—HfO2—Gd2O3 phase diagram was constructed for the first time. The maximum temperature in the system is 2820 °С and it corresponds to the melting point of HfO2 compound. The minimum temperature in the system is 1670 °С and it corresponds to three-phase eutectic Al2O3 + F-HfO2 + GdAlO3 (E3). New phases and remarkable regions of solid solutions were not found in the Al2O3—HfO2—Gd2O3 system. Since crystallization in the system finishes in eutectic reactions, it allows realizing in these materials unique properties of ternary T- and F-HfO2-based solid solutions combined with properties of other phases.
