Abstract

The analysis of the known methods for studying density and strain distribution over the cross section of the metal powder compacts is presented. It is suggested a method for studying strain and density distribution during powder compaction, which comprises: (i) by-layer filling of die mold cavity with the hard colored powders of identical composition, shape, and particles size, (ii) compaction, (iii) subsequent cutting of the compact, (iv) scanning the cutting plane, and (v) digitization of its image. The application of the method proposed and the results of the digital processing of the image are presented.
